Edna Ridenbaugh called the meeting to order. The Membership Committee began the ceremony to induct three new members: Laura Atherton, Bev Chopin, and Andrea Dickerson.
Our members and honored guests enjoyed pizza, salad, fruit, andd cookies, as our meeting continued.
The secretary's report was approved from our last meeting in May. The treasurer's report was presented by Debbie Jones. We have $5,501.32 in the scholarship fund.
Our checking account has $2,699.31. We have 53 active members and 12 reserve members. The treasurer's report was approved.
Under Old Business:
a. Scholarship Recipients
-Edna received three thank-you notes from our recipients:
Abby Isaly, Tasha Spinell, and Abigal Wilhelm.
-Abby Isaly is in an ELA Social Studies classroom, Middle
Childhood level. She is enjoying working with her students
and very grateful for the scholarship she received.
-Tasha Spinell is in a second grade classroom, at Carson
Elementary. Tasha also is using part of her scholarship
to buy supplies for her classroom.
-Abigal Wilhelm is attending Akron University and also
sends her thank-you for the scholarship. She also included
her college address.
b. Presentations of Our 2016 Grant Recipients
1.Tracy Boehmer is the librarian at Licking Valley High
School. She works with a wonderful group of students
in a program called Makerspace. This group meets
every Thursday , where they create wonderful projects
that are hands-on. Tracy used her grant money to buy
Legos. Her students love them!
2.Cheryl Crawford and Diane Schockling from Flying Colors.
- Cheryl works with very active 5-6 year old boys! She was
able to purchase STEM Science materials. All of her busy
students learn science and have lots of fun at the same
- Diane Schockling used her grant to buy Multi-Cultural
materials, such as dress-up clothes, baby dolls, and food
from different countries. Diane's goal is to have the
students learn about many wonderful people from around
the world and their neighborhood.
3. Marlene Spring teaches at John Clem Elementary School,
where she works with Special Education students, who
are ADHD and autistic. Marlene was able to purchase a
light board that is very beneficial for her students. The
students learn how to draw shapes and patterns, as well
as learning to write their alphabet letters. There are also
other materials that can be purchased to help her students
learn many other important skills they need. Marlene brought
in the light board and demonstrated how the students use
4. Diane Green is a high school math teacher, who works
with Special Education students. At Licking Heights High
School. She used her grant money to purchase the IXL.com
adaptive learning program in her resourse Algrbra I and Geometry
classes. This program allowed Diane to design and deliver
differentiated instruction at each student's level. As each
student reached success, they advanced to the next level. This
program subscription runs through November 2018. Diane has
found that this program builds self-confidence, as well as
math skills. The students can't wait to work on this program
5. Amy McCartney is a first grade teacher. Amy and her group of
first grade teachers wanted to help their students with the
STEM program. This program helps the students learn math
and science through hands-on activities. Amy said that many of
her students like using the bins, where they learn and have
fun at the same time!
6.Melissa Flesher is a Literary Coach at her school. During
Right To Read Week 2016, the topic was careers. The
students researched a career, wrote a report, gave a presenta-
tion, where they could invite guests. The students were very
excited and learned about many wonderful careers! The grant
helped the teachers buy a book for each child that participated.
The students were very surprised to receive their book!
7.Don't forget that all the grant applications are due Oct. 3, 2017!
Presentations will be given on October. 15, 2017.
c. Collection of Dues
We had a door prize drawing for all the members who paid
their dues early. Sandy Stoker won the beautiful flower bouquet
from Linnett's. Kayla Hughes provided the door prize.
Under New Business”
a.Kathleen Wallace will be going on our reserve membership
list. Louise Whitis made the motion and Carlo Koontz seconded.
All members approved the motion. Kathleen is currently at
Kendal Health Care in room 867. Please send her a card or give her a call.
b. Members To Resign
Marley Myers and Shari Fronckel will be resigning due to
family concerns. Sandy Stoker made the motion an Judy Davis
seconded. All members approved the motion.
c. Changes to Booklet
Edna asked the members if any changes needed to be made.
Under Other Business:
a. Auction---November 10, 2017 Moundbuilder's Country Club
--We have three chairmen: Karen Birtcher, Cherisse Hopper,
and Marti Kolb.
--Bring all your items to our October meeting. If you can't
make the meeting, give Cherisse a call so you can get the
items to her.
– Send your gift cards to Sandy Turco. Make sure your card
is $20 or more , if you choose.
--Tickets will be available at the October meeting.

for the 2017-2018 year.
c.Debbie Jones provided more information about our October
guest speaker. Trisha Brighton will be discussing her program
that helps women from other world countries. Please bring
towels, flannel material, and your scissors.
d. December Meeting
You can donate knit and cotton material, gift cards for
fabric stores, or embellishments for the hats.
e. We will be supporting two charities this year. They are
Baskets of Life and the Baby Pantry. You can bring in items
to any meeting.
Under Other Business:
a. Sandy Stoker will be holding two classes to teach us how
to make market baskets. They make wonderful gifts!
